Hope Baptist Church began in February of 1979 with the arrival of Pastor Sowell and his family to Toledo. The three families which comprised the church desired to see a new Bible-believing work in the Toledo area, and services were held in two of their homes. Efforts were made by the group to saturate the community with Gospel literature and to give information about the new church.
In December of 1979, a small church building was secured where they could begin to hold services. Church growth came slowly but surely. By April of 1986, the church was overflowing, and a move was made to a new, larger facility in the south end of Toledo. As this building also filled with new members, it became clear by 1999 that yet another move would soon be necessary.
On April 2, 2000, Hope Baptist Church broke ground at 6250 South Avenue, and construction began on the new facility. The building was completed in February of 2001, and a church dedication service was held that month. We are now in the stages of expanding our nursery department. God is GOOD all the time.
Our staff
Pastor Rick Sowell is a 1975 graduate of Pensacola Bible Institute in Pensacola, Florida. He and his wife, Cindy, have three children; Jessica (Marshall), Julia (Marshall), and Rick. For over 20 years, the Lord has blessed their ministry at Hope Baptist. Pastor Sowell´s preaching ministry has taken him into churches across the United States and in several foreign countries.
Pastor Jon Marshall is our singles pastor along with his wife Jessica, they now have five children. You can see what we are up to at FOCUS.
Pastor Dave Heaton is our Youth pastor along his wife Susan they have two children Marissa & Dawson. Visit Teens With Hope.
